🌟 Ron Clarke
Distance runner Ron Clarke was a member of Glenhuntly Athletics Club, a specific sporting connection with the suburb. His career included an extraordinary run of world records and a bronze medal in the 10,000 metres at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. Australians had already seen him in another memorable role: carrying the flame into the stadium at the opening of the 1956 Melbourne Games. Australian Athletics’ scholarship named in his honour recalls both his achievements and his support for other athletes, extending his influence beyond his own racing career.
